Same as the title. Do I need to obtain a work permit from the DOB?

Comments

  1. A permit from DOT is required and if it is inside for the drainage issues as raised depends on the size of the work inside the lot and only if there was no concrete beforehand. Then you don’t really need a permit from the DOB but you will need to file with them a SD-1 and 2 together with the DEP

  2. Most contractors are going to insist on a permit since it’s a pretty standard $1500 fine. Not worth the risk for a $70 permit that’s easy to get.

  3. I’ve had contractors with no fear of the DOB demand DOT permits. I guess DOT is quick to give out fines. If the original question is sidewalk related, just get the $70 homeowner permit regardless of who does the work. They let you do it by mail so hard hard can it be. Also, you don’t need to call DOT to inspect unless you are reacting to a sidewalk violation.

  4. oh, please. Just redo your sidewalk. Don’t pay any attention to permits …..
Only possible exceptions is landmark district or something.
    or office bldg.

  5. This is a DOT issue assuming that this is a public sidewalk, not DOB. Buried deep in DOT regs is a 25 SF waiver for a permit, but that is only one panel. Otherwise, it is a permit which requires insurances and a fee. I’m not sure why anyone would want DIY concrete work much over the waiver so I assume that you are a small contractor.

If this inside the lot line, you may have storm drainage issues if this is landscaped at this time and if it for parking where you don’t have parking now, you have BIG DOB issues

  6. Work permit should be depends on the work and worker. But, no need the permit for smaller work at local area.

The law requires majors who wish to work to obtain a work permit before starting employment. In order to receive a work permit, the person requesting it must provide documentation of his or her age and identity. The work permit must then be furnished to the employer, who keeps it with other employee information.

  7. If you do not have a violation and you can get someone to do it in one day, you will most likely get away without obtaining a permit. If a violation has been issued, the only way to get it removed is by obtaining a permit, per NYC code a permit is required, you get it from the Highway Department, you can print out the forms online (see url below), mail it in along with a $70 money order (no personal checks) within 2 weeks you will receive your permit which is good for 30 days, once the sidewalk is completed (make sure it is properly graded and has the expansion joints), call the highway department and they will send an inspector to sign off on the repair.
