Windows Won't Stay Up
I have several double hung windows who top part will not stay up. I can not afford landmark approved replacements. Any recs on repair? Costs?

Then you probably have spring tension rods which just give out over time. I replaced some for a friend of mine a few years ago and the first ones were a real pain in the neck, but got significantly easier as I went along. I wouldn’t recomend it if you’re not handy though. I think she bought the rods from Park Slope Glass and if memory serves, they were around $20 apiece, based on length. They had quoted her around $75 per window labor only. It took me almost an hour to finish the first one while I was figuring it out, about 15 minutes by the last one, so the quote wasn’t terrible, but not great. It was a frustrating process though.
There is also a product called a sash tension spring, which just slips in between the sash and the frame and creates enough of a friction fit that the window stays in place, they cost two or three dollars each. I’ve never used them, so I don’t know how well they work, but it might be worth looking into. It’s a quick easy fix if it works, if not, you’re out $6.
Vinyl
Wood, Vinyl or aluminum?
Byron has repaired old and installed new windows for me. Windows is all he does. Haven’t needed any repairs for a while but I believe he’s still around 917-559-6502
“New” window 20-years or so

Are they original windows with counterweights? Or newer windows?
Windows We Are in Bayridge repaired my cheap aluminum windows. They all work now. Super nice people and not expensive.
