Has Your House Been on a Tour?
Have any of you had your house opened up on a neighborhood house tour? Any negatives to this that you’ve experienced?

It has been my experience that there are always spaces off limits to people on the tour. Bedrooms for instance… Rob.

I doubt that DOB or HPD code enforcement inspectors work on weekends.
Thanks for all the input. I was not concerned about potential burglars “casing the joint.”
Brooklynexpediter makes an interesting point though.
My house has been on the PLG house tour four times [plus a few less formal min-tours], first in 1977, most recently in 2006. I’ve never had a problem and have always enjoyed having my house on tour. The last time was as a showcase for my landscape photographs and I actually sold a few prints. We’ve found that having our house on tour is a great way for setting deadlines to get projects done.
As to the idea that buglers might use a tour to case your house, AFAIK that’s an urban myth. I’ve been working on the PLG tour since 1975 and have been involved with the organizers of other Brooklyn house tours almost as long, first through the old Brooklyn Brownstone Conference and, more recently, through the consortium that puts out the annual house tour listings. I’ve never heard of an actual burglary attributable to having had one’s house on tour
Just make sure no DOB or HPD code enforcement inspector is part of that!!
