We need a redesign or possible reconfiguration of our “three-bedroom” co-op. Two of the bedrooms are quite small, and we’ve not been able to use either as a proper guest bedroom that would comfortably sleep two. Project would entail some demolition of previous shareholder’s built-ins and restoration of rooms to their original (c.1897) height. Budget will probably be limited to the $10-12K range. Can anyone recommend a creative designer or architect that would be willing to take on a small residential project like this?
I am an Architect / Investor working in Brooklyn. My partners and I have been using Don Perrone of Perrone Construction for many years. He is with us for every project right from the beginning, providing us with insight and detailed pricing. This allows us to properly and cost effectively design a project. His team is professional and very hard working. All our projects have been completed on time; even when there are last minute changes to the scope of work. If I have to describe Don, he is a “get things done†kind of guy. He always makes himself available to us and always stands behind his work. I highly recommend him and his company for all your renovations.

Hi there my husband is a contractor and he would be happy to take on your renovation. We have references available and recommendations here on the forum. You can reach us at 914-562-2706 /aida_barbosa88@hotmail.com Hope to hear from you!
Hi,
I am a licensed architect with experience of renovation and new construction for residential projects. I would like to learn more about your place. You can contact me via generative.arch@gmail.com
Thank you.
Thanks to both for recommendation and advice. Just to clarify: we are not committed to the need for reconfiguring the rooms from their present state (which is the original congiguration, apart from the dropped ceilings). If we can accomplish what we need to do in terms of room functions — sleeping/reading, small office/desk space, closet space, dressing area, guest room — without punching through walls, so much the better (and cheaper). We’re hoping a creative designer/architect might help us reimagine the rooms in ways that haven’t occurred to us.
Since the existing apartment configuration will change you will need by law a work permit as well so you need an architect anyway rergardless of there are structural changes or not.
Yes, highly recommend Gavin Young Maloney for this. He’s a licensed contractor who advertises on Brownstoner. He has excellent taste, would be able to do really nice finishes that will keep the new configuration looking original. He’s very detail oriented and loves old houses. I’m assuming you don’t have structural issues, since it sounds like you are returning the rooms to their original configuration. If structural issues, you will need an architect and/or engineer. We’ve used him for a couple of small jobs.
