Our new house has a weed-choked yard, and we’d like to bring in a guy or two to yank the weeds (some of which are at least 10 feet high and have stems like small tree trunks) and remove a little bit of debris. It’s not a huge job, maybe a couple of hours of work for two men. I was thinking about trying to hire some of the guys who wait for day work outside the 4th Ave. U-Haul, but I have no idea how much to offer to pay them. How much is fair? Or is there anyone in particular that you would recommend for this kind of job?

  2. day laboror central is down on ft hamilton across from the south corner of cemetery. If the guys on 4th are scooped up by lunchtime definitely take a spin down ft hamilton.

  3. BABS you beat me to it! i was just going to suggest the foot soldiers!!! those kids got rave reviews for their work and dedication and i bet they can sure use the money (not that day laborers dont either…) but i’d go with the kids honestly. it’s teaching them a great work ethic, whereas day laborers already have a good work ethic.

  4. I was about to post the same thing. I pay $100 for a short day and provide lunch. I just posted on another thread but I’ve been 100% happy with every day labor guy I’ve hired in recent months. Work ethic that puts me to shame, and I’m a pretty hard worker.
If you’re picking up in the morning, they’ll be hoping for a full day of work. I’d suggest either hiring one guy for a day or go a little later after the contractors have been by …
