Where Can I Find Cover for Hatch?
Like other brownstone buildings, I have a flat black metal door covering the hatch in the front of the building which leads to the basement. I have seen rectangular metal-plated box covers over these doors. Does anyone know where I can buy one?

I was confused, i thought he was just looking for something like a Bilco door, something that is functional. Any pix of such “box covers”? Is it for aesthetics? I’m confused.
why would you want one?
From what I gather – you are talking about the wood covered with sheet metal. They were place over openings that just had a security bar frame sitting underneath. Not over ones that have the metal doors with hinges.
Anyone could lift those old ones up – and peer down the hatch.
Looking for more insulation? or getting drips from rain?

and now we fabricate using RECLAIMED iron.. it’s cool.
and we’re “new” so the price will be cheap!

This isn’t going to be all that helpful, but maybe someone will know what I’m talking about. I had one made in Gowanus a few years back. The guy was either on 6th Street or 15th Street. Or some other street. But it was between 2nd & 3rd. I think.
The hinged ones are nice because they usually have a sliding bar across the inside for security. Haven’t seen that with the box type covers, at least not so far.
Ironworks companies, the kind that make metal doors, also install these.
I think think the box type covers [usually wood, sometimes covered with sheet metal] are usually used on houses [like mine]that haven’t had the newer hinged metal doors installed. IMO a such a cover over a metal door would be redundant.
