I would like to build a pergola or some kind of shade structure on top of the deck. Do I need a permit for this? What are the code violations that I need to be aware of?
combustible material (wood) can only be 20% of a roof area. Maybe do some sketches and ask an architect (like Jock)
If this is to be a structure that covers an area, then a permit required.
