I live on a corner on a non-landmarked block. A good amount of my sidewalk is bluestone. Recently I saw someone spray painting my bluestone and I have been told that the City is installing 2 sidewalk ramps for the disabled in front of my house and they have to remove a good section of bluestone. I understand that they have to install the ramps but I can’t understand why they need to remove the blue stone about 10 feet from the corner. Any suggestions on who I can appeal to besides the dot.

  1. I spoke to someone at the Department of Traffic about a similare situation and was told that a homeowner who wants to keep the bluestone is entitled to do so, the DOT will not remove them. Call DOT for clarification

  2. I had a situation exactly like this and managed to convince the contractor (who convinced the city agency liaison) that the ramp wasn’t needed because my driveway was so close to the corner that it could be used for that access. Someone (the city or the contractor) saved time, I saved an attractive corner (not just the blue stone, but a swath of grass). I hope you will find your people as accommodating. Start calling anyone and everyone friendly at your CB, DOT, parks. Brainstorm options! Good luck.
