Buying Appliances Online
Is there a downside to buying appliances online? It seems to be that no retailers do service anymore except maybe sears? So, I don’t see the point. I’ve been looking at AJ Madison. Anyone better?

I’ve been looking at AJ Madison. Anyone better?
I had a bad/good experience with AJ Madison several years ago. Although the phone representative was very patient and helpful, the washer/dryer we ordered was a different brand than the one we ordered. That was the bad part, and as bad goes, it’s pretty bad. In addition, we’d needed a portable one and the one we received was not. It was also a brand that sold for about $400 less on other websites than what we paid. It took about two weeks of phone calls and angry emails to get our money refunded and the washing machine returned. I guess what I’m saying is the good part of this experience was that a.) everyone was very nice, and b.) we did ultimately get all of our money back.
LandlOrd, I agree with you on Steve. I emailed him last week at 10PM about an AC and he actually emailed me back around 10:30PM. Now that was impressive! I won’t comment on both our miserable lives that we were doing business at that hour, but when you’re buying appliances you want a guy with no life and no sales tax.
It may or may not be OK to buy on line from AJ Madison, but I know from personal experience that their Brooklyn showroom simply does NOT work. My wife and I went there about a year and a half ago to buy a range and left after trying unsuccessfully for a half hour to get one of their many salesman to look up from their computer terminal and help us. Also, we’ve found that EBA’s prices are considerably lower than AJ Madison’s web prices I doubt that it’s possible to negotiate lower prices in person at AJM since their so-called sales people will rudely ignore you. OTOH their website is a useful tool and their showroom, which is quite attractive, could be a good place to examine high end appliances [undisturbed, obviously, by sales people] that you might want to buy from other sources.
Try EBA Wholesale, I decided to go with them after contemplating buying online. EBA matched the price and delivered promptly since they are located in Brooklyn. Also, was a plus that I could go to their showroom to see actual appliance and ask questions. The store is kind of dumpy but the prices are good.

Feel free to call me. Levi 347 276 6528. I have plenty of referrals. I offer next day delivery. One of the problems buying online is that if something arrives damaged its a real big pain to simply return or exchange it. Best off dealing with someone local. I have yet to not be able to beat a price from any local or online retailer.
Steve at http://www.appliancesbuyphone.com will get you what you want (even if is not listed on his website), will have it delivered to you and you pay no sales taxes in NY. In the past 6 years I never found an other company offering a better delivered price. BTW, delivery is done by PCRichard.
Hi, it sounds like you are asking two quesions. A reliable source for good quality appliances and also someone who will service them after they are in your home. When I did my kitchen renovation I bought all the appliances (different manufacturers) from Krup Kitchen and Bath in Manhattan. They had great sources and the lowest price on most items. But when it came time to service them, each manufacturer has contracts with different service suppliers. So I had to contact each brand and get the names of certified local servicers. I don’t think any appliance store will directly service the appliances in your home. Sears, yes, but they only sell a couple of brands.
I second AJ Madison. Talk to Abie (not Abe) — great deal, great service.
I bought a lot of my other stuff — toilets, bathtubs, medicine cabinets, etc. online. So far, no problem, but too soon to tell.
liked aj madison. they have a store in brooklyn or queens. i would actually go there – if you are buying more than one application you might be able to negotiate more in person. we bought essentially all there and he matched the best online price incl the tax.
