Hey all,
We’re looking to replace our windows and are leaning towards going with aluminum frames.
Can anyone recommend a high quality window and a reputable installer?
Many thanks,
Molly

  1. I have installed Crystal Windows in houses and have seen what I believe to be their product in many buildings in the city and have always thought them to be a perfectly fine window – well built and very durable. I recently had a call from a customer who I’d installed Crystal Windows for in 1997 and he did not mention any problems with the windows.

    I would recommend Crystal.

If you buy aluminum frame windows, be sure they have a thermal break in them (which all modern aluminum frame windows may have anyway).

  2. Crystal windows makes a VARIETY of good aluminium. If you get the cheap ones thats what you get get. I have installed good ones that are doing well after 6 years

  3. We just replaced our Andersen 15 yr old windows with the OKNA 500 Deluxe series. I did quite a bit of research on what brand to use and OKNA won based on our budget and their quality. The window is eligible for the 30% energy tax credit.

As far as installers, you can check out Windows We Are. Everyone in this forum talks about them. We did not use them because they only offered Alside Windows based on our budget.

  4. DO NOT use Crystal Windows…the quality of their windows is horrible. They typically fail after one year. They are cheap but you get what you pay for.

  5. We used Lucky Window Products to install All Season aluminum windows -installation was quick and painless and prices were low -pretty good windows also. It turns out that they are the same aluminum frames that some of the Soundproof window companies use ($$$$)…

  6. Crystal Window and door in Flushing makes a variety of good aluminum windows.
They have installer recommendations but I can not vouch for them.
