We would like to rewire our house. The garden level has all new wiring, but the parlor and top floors still have the old cloth wiring. Anyone have a good LICENSED electrician? Any idea of the cost?

  1. It took them three weeks start to finish. Paul is super nice, responsive, and reliable.

You can help greatly if you have all your fixtures ready to go, make a map of every point with any special instructions and give it to them, and mark an x in blue tape everywhere in the house a point goes. FYI electrical outlets will not be exactly centered (unless you specially request it — it will take longer and cost more) but they are very precise and careful where it matters — for example, when centering a light over a sink or around a mirror.

  2. I CAN RECOMMEND ALTIN FROM ELMAC ELECTRIC ING (646) 369 7594 HE IS MY ELECTRICIAN FOR 3 YEARS SO FAR HE DID COMPLETE WIRING IN MY HOUSE HE IS THE FIRST ELECTRIC COMPANY WITH 1 YEAR WARRANTY WITH NO CHARGE
TELL HIM PETER FROM 8 AV 11 STREET GREAT JOB IN A SINGLE DETAIL REASONABLE PRICE

  3. I second the recommendation for Super Charged. They did a great job on our house, and are honest and reasonably priced. 718-981-7173

  4. I second Paul Laidlow’s outfit, WCK in Bed-Stuy. They did a great job and were very reasonably priced. Also, if you’re preserving a lot of detail they can rewire with minimal damage.

  5. I used WCK in Bed Stuy. They were very quick and reasonably priced. $15,000 for three stories plus a cellar. That included two new panels, and every single wire in the house is PBX to the outlets. Another $2,000 to plaster as they go (optional).

I have to warn you though, it’s a nightmare doing this if you’re living in the house. There will be dust everywhere. In fact, if you have children and the house is old, you might want to talk to someone knowledgeable about lead abatement measures first.
