Contractor is having problems with the installation and I’m looking for anyone who has done this before to share their tricks (or the ph # of the person who did it for them). Thanks.
Just to close the loop – the center hole (formerly drain, future faucet) was too large. Someone at Lowe’s had told me I needed at least a one inch hole, what she didn’t clarify is that it also couldn’t be larger than X… We swapped the sink for a different one from the salvage yard with a smaller center hole and my contractor was able to pop in the faucet fine.
Or wrong size pipe?
What exactly is the problem? Supply lines or waste in the wrong place?
I’ve used a variety of contractors and handymen — all well versed in the basics of plumbing — to do a variety of plumbing jobs around the house. Never again. Call a professional plumber. It will cost the same. Possibly less. They will do the job right, they will do it fast, and it will look good.
Plumbers know about weird stuff contractors don’t, and they have better access to strange supplies, such as 7/8 pipe and wacky gaskets that haven’t been made since 1942. They are also insured, if they make some horrible error and break your lead waste or flood your newly plastered downstairs. (Some contractors are also insured.) If in need of old and obscure parts, by the way, Alfano Plumbing Supply in Queens really is the best.
You can use any plumber. I personally have huge admiration for the people at Nu-Lite in Maspeth, Queens. They have three master’s plumbers licenses and their minimum is $150 an hour.
