Do the first one by itself, because you will probably find you find a mistake and have to un- / re-assemble a part of it. After that they should fly and you might be able to do a bunch at a time in production level style. 20 might give you some repetitive blisters, so wear a comfortable set of gloves and two people would be in order. Start early, i’d say one whole day.
Book shelves aren’t that hard to assemble from ikea. Like someone said, if they’re all the same by the time you start the third one you won’t even need to look at the directions anymore.
Oh, and if you insist on paying someone to assemble, I think Ikea still has an assembly service. Not sure what they charge though. Give them a call. Alternatively, there are tons of ads on Craigslist for handymen who specialize in assembling Ikea items.
I agree with Christopher. I put together 3 of the Expedit line with no help (1 4×4, 2 2×4). The first one drove me to drink (why the $#!@ do they think it’s cute to have instructions with pictures but no words???), the second and third flew together in about 20 minutes each. Regardless of which line you have, it would not be cost effective to pay someone to assemble 20 of them. With what they’d likely charge you, you could probably by 10 more of whatever shelves you’ve got. Get some friends, get some beer and clear your Saturday afternoon.
I recently put together 2 Ikea bookshelves (the Hemnes line). First one took well over an hour. The directions are for shit and it’s not always obvious which side is up or down, back or front (not to mention the 39, yes 39, mini tack nails they want you to use on the backing…)
The second book case took less than an hour, since I figured out the quirks while doing the first.
If all 20 are identical and you had a few buddies you might be able to bang them out in a day.

20? Damn.
