My plumber had to install the gas dryer vent through the roof because of structure of house. What kind of vent cover should I use? The vent is sticking straight up. Should I put an elbow on it 90 degrees to the side and then a wall vent cover? I am worried about rain and snow getting into it and also having it bllow lint up into the air rather than on the roof where I can clean it off. Any suggestsions? Thank you so much.

  1. The termination of a dryer vent should NOT be facing straight up for exactly the reasons you mentioned.

Put two elbows on it to form an inverted U and cover the end with a louvre or coarse mesh to prevent animals/birds/leaves from getting into the pipe. While you’re at it, see how many feet of exhaust pipe the dryer can safely handle and note how many feet of pipe each elbow represents.
