Electrician needed for 220V circuit breaker
I’ve got a 220V circuit breaker that quit today. The way it’s wired looks like two 110V breakers wired in parallel, and I think one of the two died. (The European model oven is wired on that circuit, and the internal light comes on, but the heating elements don’t.) We’re in a brownstone in Park…

Anyone have a recommendation for a good, reliable electrician for this job?
Gambi Electric is unreliable. They do not return phone calls
Steamanm, I’d odo this readily, but I wouldn’t recommend it like that…people here think you can get electrocuted changing a light bulb!
At the least, TURN OFF THE MAIN POWER (and have a flashlight and a helper handy.) Breakers can be sticky, either in or out and you don’t want your fingers straying to live busbars if you slip!!
Also, the wires need to inserted all the way and the screw tightened securely.
Not a job for the timid or mechanically impaired.
Look at the make of the breaker. Is it GE, Westinghouse, etc..
Look at how many amperes it is rated for, the number is stamped on the breaker ( 30, 50, 20 etc..)
Got it? Good.
Now go to Lowes and buy one. It’s called a 2 pole breaker.
Shut the power (ie turn the breaker off), loosen the screws holding the two wires in place, pull them away (out of the box if possible).
Now you can actually pull the breaker off the panel by pulling it up and away from the middle of the panel toward the outside edge of the panel.
Repeat the above steps in reverse order to install the new breaker.
Turn on air conditioner.
Thank the SteamMan for saving you a bunch of dollars while sipping a gin and tonic in your nice cool room.
Good luck.

We had our whole house done by Gambi Electric. Reliable and reasonable.

His office is in the North Slope
Call Henry at Verrazano Electrical, http://www.verrazanoelectric.com/about-us. Just used them for a few small things at our co-op in Boerum Hill, and I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to recommend them! They were great–responsive, fast, reasonably priced.
