When filing with the DOB, is it possible to file an ALT 2 without doing a directive 14? Or not have the owner sign-off on the job filing for “certification for Directive 14 Application” regarding the final inspection?

  1. Not a great idea to do a directive 14 ,
directive 14 applications in Queens are automaticaly audited – which leads to enormous headaches.
Ask an expediter if same applies in Brooklyn –
audited directive 14 applications never come to a conclusion.

  2. Final inspection is only that it is built according to plan the same a construction signoff for an alt-1 or nb. It has nothing to do with fire stops, mech. or the other tr-1 items. Once the job is finish instead of certifying the final (or taking responsibility for it in the beginning) you schedule a standard inspection where a special report will be written and if according to plan and approved you will get a copy wich you submit together with the final tr-1 of the fire stopping and the rest and then you get your signoff.

  3. Who would do the firestopping, mechanical, and firestopping? I, as the architect would be willing to do the firestopping and mechanical, but the building owner does not want to take responsibility for the final? Would the DOB come out and do the final or other inspections?

  4. Yes you can. If you file it non-directive then a DOB inspector must signoff on the application instead of the architect. Actually, according to the actual directive it is an elective and not a mandatory provision but under the current regime of the twisted logic of the DOB it is if the architect wants to do the inspection rather then DOB.
