Clogged Downspout
My downspout is full of water, almost all the way to the top (one full story). It`s been hours and hours since last night`s heavy rain. How can I unclog it? Or is it the drain in the street that`s backing it up? Thanks for any advice!!

this can be particularly painful. In one case, te building had a 4″ leader which transitioned to a 3″ cast iron pipe below grade and made two turns before entering the building to a 4″ pipe- years of trying to keep this clean ended up with a 4″ cast iron clean out installed above grade and regular cleaning
moral of the story – what you vcan’t see may be your problem
This will be a pian to deal with. Your downspout transitions to cast iron 4″-6″ soil pipe at some point. Remove the thin aluminum downspout from where it enters the soil pipe and determine if the clog is above or below. If it’s above, you can probably work on shaking out the debris but if it’s below you’lll need to get it snaked. When you’re all trough, get a wire mesh cover for the opening to the downspout. You can buy ones that sort of look like a lightbulb where the narrow end fits in the opening.
I assume this is a roof drain that goes into your sewer line as you mentin the street. If your house waste is working fine, I would guess this clog is before the drain gets to the house waste line. If there is a clean out at the bottom of it and you can open it, if no or little water comes out, you know the clog is above.
This is not really something I do, I am just trying to help answer your question.
