Patio/Garden Furniture - Where to Get?
We need some chairs for our new garden (we moved in october) and so far craigslist has not been kind. we are considering the awful prospect of borrowing a car this weekend and going out to buy some new stuff. does anyone have good places they recommend? we looked at IKEA online and don’t much…

we looked at IKEA online and don’t much like their stuff… would be very very happy to buy used if we can… lowe’s did not look bad, but maybe there are some locally owned places in south brooklyn, staten island, even NJ that we can try??? (would love to avoid box store chains if possible)
thanks for advice and ideas
I agree with Kingfish. I love Family Leisure…formerly Watson’s. http://www.familyleisure.com/
Used furniture can have several issues including mold, fleas, and dry rot. I would shop for patio furniture at a reputable dealer or retail outlet. Clearance priced items are comparable to used but come with warranty.

They have stores in different cities.
good ideas all, I buckled down and found several good leads on CL, though it’s always tough to do CL on a schedule.
Why buy retail when you live in an area where there are such good stoop sales? Cruise your local sales this weekend before laying out for new stuff…
Believe it or not, I got some very nice-looking comfortable folding chairs from Martha Stewart for Kmart. I ordered online and hade them shipped flat. They fold away for the winter and really look good. Also, of course, check out the Brooklyn Flea. My neighbor got a fantastic deal on a mid-century sofa with matching arm chairs.

If you have a car or are nearby swing by Trailer Park on Sterling between 6th and 7th Avenue. It is small but this time of year they have outdoor furniture. It is used/vintage-y and they often have cool unusual stuff. I got my stuff there last year including a metal and glass table.
Look more closely at Craigs List – subset search for Brooklyn or Manhattan.
I just looked under patio furniture and found a wider selection than you’re going to see at any of the local places – metal, wood, plastic (uck), vintage, newish – chairs, tables, lounges…
Both Leopoldi’s and Tarzian hardware stores, in the Slope, have descent stuff on desplay outside,
