Open BBQ
Just walked down 8th street btw 7 and 8 avenues…and in the front of a bstone is a small kettle bbq. No one around. Just a raging flame about a foot high. Even if someone was minding the grill its seem crazy so close to the street and trees. Is this legal?

I don’t share perk’s concern, but there sure is a lot of mean-spiritedness in the replies. Not sure why.
The barbecue must be at least ten feet from anything flammable, must be constantly attended and there must be a source of water available, such as a garden hose or a four gallon bucket of water. Check the FDNY summer fire safety fact sheet.
Sorry, that sounds dangerous.
Even if a tree did’t catch fire, there’s too much foot traffic; too many children; too much flame.
i’d have stood there until the person doing the bbqing came out.
Oh, sorry, I guess I forgot the requisite 😉
So did you go to the BBQ????
Trees, like humans, contain a surprising amount of water. They don’t just catch fire from something like a bbq.
Legally, you can have a bbq that’s ten feet from your building. You can’t grill on your fire escape, but you can grill in the presence of busybodies and street trees.
I have to jump on the Let It Go bandwagon.
Actually, I’m gonna have to go ahead and ditto Dave on this. Perk, kick back, have a beer and join the BBQ.

I’ve been “hung over quite low” and never caught on fire.
Actually, the tree in an adjacent yard hung over quite low. So, I guess it is possible.
And Dave, I’m sorry that asking a question is such a problem.
Thanks for the help, though.
Street trees are gonna catch fire from a bbq? In what universe?
