Hello, I’m looking for a place where I can get old doors. I tried the large place in Harlem, but am wondering if there are other options in Brooklyn?

  1. Eddie’s is the place to go. He does demolition on old buildings and recovers the salvage. He has many many doors from indoor to large original front outdoor doors.
He also has a great guy working for him, Fred, who will strip the doors. In some cases, you might want to have the doors refurbished or repaired. Regarding front doors, the older doors were very well made in layers (forget how to describe this) to resist warping, so if you find a front pair that fit but have damage, you can contact OMAR from Wood Art works to have him restore them for much less money than a new pair. You can find him on this site.

  2. I purchased a lot of old doors from Eddie, the place mentioned above. Only go after noon, Tues to Sat, and take cash. Be prepared to do a lot of work on the doors, but the prices are good. He is on the corner of Grand and Greene.

Also, try the Salvage place under the overpass by the Lowe’s parking lot. They have some doors, hardware, lots of ironwork and a little lighting.

In Astoria, go to Build it Green (BIGNYC). They have a decent selection of doors, and lots of other salvage items, and it’s a nonprofit. They have a good website with directions.

Also, keep your eyes on this forum site as people sometimes list doors for sale.

And then there are always dumpters outside reno sites…
