I have a red brick floor patio behind my brownstone. The bricks have been developing more and more moss. How do I get rid of it?

Comments

  1. 1. brush off as much as possible
2 with a stiff brush wash with baking soda water
    3. let it dry completely
    4 But SAND BAGS LOTS!!!
Brush on the sand with a stiff mason brush .
the sand particles will act as abrasive agent and further clean the brick.
Also do the sand as a monthly maintenance NO WATER
IF you have over hanging trees prune them back sunshine is your best algae moss killer and no moisture

  2. Bleach is really toxic, and once it runs off your patio it goes into some other animal’s habitat. Not the best idea in terms of the big picture.

Anything that’s alkaline will kill your moss. Try a baking soda solution instead, and waiting a couple of days for it to dry out so that you don’t have to scrub as much.

  3. Bleach solution and a scrub brush. At least once every spring and fall. We leave the solution on for a couple of hours, then rinse with the hose.

  4. with a lot of hard work
I had this problem too and every spring my husband took a stiff sweeper broom and just tried to get the moss off
many people swear by vinegar – we also hosed it off as well
    it’s troubling b/c it’s soo slippery
    good luck

  5. not sure it’s the correct approach, but we power washed some mossy bricks and concrete foundation once and it worked great. After the area dried out in the sun, we just swept up the moss.
