A friend is scouting locations to open a hot yoga studio. The location will be in Prospect Heights or Crown Heights, on either Washington or Franklin Ave. Can a hot yoga studio flourish in this area? Is there any interest?

  1. There are existing Pilates and yoga studios right off of Washington Avenue already – don’t know if your friend would see that as a plus or a minus.

  2. I used to go to Bikram Yoga on Flatbush. Pretty easy commute from Franklin Ave (to Bergen St). However, would love a Bikram place on Franklin Ave! I would say you would get a considerable business, there are quite a few yogis that were in Flatbush that were locals. Also the classes tended to be very crowded – not very condusive to a good practice/mental health! Isn’t there already a Bikram place in Ft. Greene?
Franklin Ave. is the best commute wise.

  3. I travel to Bikram yoga daily in Midtown from Bed-Stuy and would definitely change up my routine (at least on weekends) if there were a NICE, CLEAN hot yoga studio nearby. I’d select the location that has the best subway access, which from these choices looks like it could be the Franklin Ave space. The Franklin Ave shuttle connects the B,Q,C,2,3,4,5 lines and therefore would be convenient to a large group of yogis. A good size changing room WITH showers would also be BIG pluses!

  4. no neg on fort greene, but i think a hot yoga studio would do fine in PH, not sure about CH. (i live in PH and probably wouldn’t go all the way to franklin unless the classes were a serious bargain.) you’d want to charge less than bikram if possible, and maybe have a 6 am and/or a 9pm class a few days per week to accommodate folks who commute, are juggling kids, etc.

  5. There is a Bikram Yoga studio on Flatbush Avenue in Prospect Heights already. I think that the best neighborhood would be Fort Greene. You would than get Clinton Hill, parts of Bed-Stuy and even Boerum Hill. Not so sure about Crown Heights.
