I just received the new calculation for my level payment plan from conEd, which amounts to a 30% or$60 a month increase in my payments. The amount I owed to conEd at the end of last year’s level billing was equal to 5% or $15 a month. I could not get an explanation from the conEd representative as to how the new level billing amount was calculated. I was told to take it on leave it. Anyone recently experiencing anything like that with their level billing payments? Is there any recourse?

  1. Not sure if there is any recourse, as the level billing is determined by prior usage patterns. And of course they pad it so that it always winds up that they owe you $$ as opposed to you owing them $$. The increase, though still based on prior usage, may take into account rate increases, fees, etc. You could try reasoning with them (ie. beating your head against the wall) and if all else fails, try the Public Service Commission. Good luck and let us know if you make any headway.
