I wondering if anyone can recommend a person/company to look at the building and give us an idea of what is possible and how much it would cost, knowing that we would have no plans to do anything for a few years.
add another 6-8% after the 4 years on top of the quote price for 2010 for construction and profess fees! if you lucky
If I may guess, it sounds like you’re looking for a place that is hideously ugly but functional. In other words, like one of the renovated places in Bushwick currently occupied by tenants. Not an empty place with original details, which would typically have structural and mechanical issues that would need to be addressed before move-in.
Be aware though: Better to do plaster and floor refinishing first. So, that’s pretty much everything.
The contractor that gut renovated my brownstone in Windsor Terrace has a Coaching Service where they charge a fee to review projects before they are purchased. You can get more info by going to their website and click the “services” link…look for their “coaching” service.

A contractor is good if it is all to be interior work. If you intend to add an extension or the like, you need know hire someone with zoning experience. An architect or zoning consulant.
