Truly Quiet Window ACs?
Wondering if anyone has good recommendations for window AC units they think are pretty quiet? Our current models are Sharp brand, and they drive me crazy–we have to blast the TV to be able to hear over the AC. Thinking of switching them out this year, if I can find something reliably quieter. Thanks!

before this ductless design hit the industry Friedrich was the brand to use in the Manhattan market especially in the bedrooms and with the TV going as noted
I recently installed a couple of LG low profile units. They are MUCH quieter than the standard size units, take up much less window, and weigh a lot less. They top out at about 6000 btu.
Friedrich – but if you look at consumer reports findings you will see that you can’t look completely by brand, the model is important as well. However i have had decent luck with this brand – but window units are just plain noisy!
Also, for what you use to block the space on the side of the unit – use 3/4 in plywood (or as thick as you can – to block the sound coming in from the sides. those accordion pieces of thin plastic are not helping the noise thing.
Finally, anywhere the unit meets is touching or resting on the window frame, use some medium dense rubber/foam from home depot to cut down on the vibrational noise radiating throughout the window and wall. And place some in the window crack above.
that’s all i know hope it helps
