Stucco on Interior Walls

I read some of the comments and even if you cover it with dry wall you will have to scrape it first. Skim-coating will give you a nicer surface than sheetrock. And a good plasterer could do it without much mess or bother. It will most likely cost a bit more. I am a plasterer so of course I will recommend plastering, though a lot of people would agree.
At any rate stucco is a horrible finish, and I still have not been able to figure out why anyone ever thought it a “good idea” So any way you do it the world will be a better place for it. Good luck and if you want any advice feel free to contact me.
Oh and you definitely do not want to sand. The dust would be horrible.

I agree. Far less time, mess to cover it with drywall. It’ll look 100x better when it’s finished. I even did a ceiling where we brought the new drywall up to the edge of the plaster crown moldings and it looks fine.
