Servicing up a Gas Boiler
I think it may be time to “service” my gas boiler. It’s about ten years old and it seemed not to go on as it should this past winter. Anyone knows who to call, how much to expect to pay, what should be getting done, or any other helpful advice would be much appreciated. thanks.

thanks.
I had the maintenance agreement with kespan till there was a huge snowstorm and many boilers went out – I was put on a 3 day wait list. I’ve only used plumbers since. Of the ones I’ve tried, only Aladdin Plumbing has acted professionally and resolved all issues easily and at a reasonable cost compared to toher estimates. Vigilante wanted 11,000+ to replace a boiler recently after shutting it down on an emergency call in Dec – Aladdin came the next day repaired the problem so I could have heat till they installed a new one and did it all for $8000+. They explain the plumbing and are clear with their pricing and advice.
Many local independent plumbing/heating contractors offer similar programs for less or with faster and more reliable service.
Annual service on a gas boiler can be an involved process and it may be a good idea to shop around for the right service provider for your individual needs.
thanks cmu, that sounds like a good deal.
Keyspan/Natinal has a maintenance program for about 250/yr. Well worth it and they’ll do one service/checkup a year (including relighting the boiler if,as I do, you turn off the gas in summer). Repairs are also included, but I don’t know exactly what’s covered.
