Hi. I’m using some 19th century Victorian tiles for the area behind the stove in my kitchen. My mom collected them on various trips to Europe including her honeymoon so she and I are quite nostalgic about them, beyond them now being pretty valuable. I had to get some reproduction tiles to complete the design and they are slightly thinner than the 19th century ones. So I think they are going to be a little tricky to install. Does anyone have an excellent tile guy/gal you can recommend?

Thanks.

  1. I don’t have an installer for you just a suggestion. You may want to try installing them on some sort of removeable fire retardant board which you then set into your backsplash instead of the sheetrock. If these tiles are truly valuable (and of sentimental value) try designing a solution that will make it easier to remove them without damage at a later date. You could adhere the board with fasteners that are hidden by the range below and the hood above. Also installing on a board could be done horizontally where you could fuss over their positions and are not fighting gravity.
    Just a thought.

  2. No personal experience with him, but this is contact info for Mauro Zanutto, tilesetter used for This Old House Brooklyn: Giada Stone Corp., 718-832-2840

  3. Oleg 347-583-0523. He is a very good tiler and if he thinks he can’t handle a job or can’t do it perfectly, he wont take it.
