Dear all,

Like many of you, we have a huge number of what I think are primarily wires for cable service running from the pole in the backyard to the house. I know for a fact that many of them are simply dead, and have been for a long time. The pole itself has literally dozens of splitters etc…with wires coming out of them. It seems like Verizon and or Time Warner installs new wires every time people get service and leave the old wires there. I may be wrong about this, but the bottom line is: How do we get rid of all these f–king wires?

Any insight would be appreciated.

  1. Is there a rectangular box about 1′ by 3′ mounted verticall on the pole with wires coming out going to your house as well as many of your neighbors? Anything that doesn’t go into that box is not connected. By the way, if you have one of these boxes then you should also have a maintenance access agreement with TWCNYC. Which means you should be getting free cable (basic plus all premium channels) as compensation.

  2. IMBY….a great idea until I get to the live one! Is there some sort of tool for detecting a wire with current running through it that doesn’t require cutting the wire?
