I need a recommendation of windows manufacturers for a project in a landmark area. I don’t really understand how Landmark Preservation Commission accepts aluminum clad windows and not fiberglass. Any experience with the LPC accepting something that’s reasonable priced, looks good and it’s energy efficient?

Besides Marvin, Pella and Andersen, do you know any other company that offers good products at a more affordable price?

  1. Look into Bonneville at Modern Way Lumber. I installed them in a Brownstone and they were perfectly functional.

I’m going to get an estimate from them for a Landmark project. We are also looking into making the windows with our millworker and a local double insulated window glass vendor for cost comparison.

Proper installation is a must regardless of what window you choose.

  2. We had a horrendous experience with Air-Flo. You would do better to get Marvin, Pella or Anderson. The Pella windows we put in to replace some of the Air-Flo windows (which rotted pretty quickly because of their hideous installation) were much better and less expensive.

  3. If you go with Air-Flo, you’ll have a nice product at a fair price, but keep your eye on the installation, their organizational abilitities, and give them PLENTY of time to complete the job.

  4. Air-Flo ((718) 875-8600) or Windows We are (windowsweare.com).

I’ve used Windows We Are and was very impressed with them. My family has used Air-Flo and speaks highly of them as well.
