hi there, i’m not sure if window gates are the same as window guards but i just moved and have 2 simple vertical design iron interior window gates if you’re interested. one has a NYC compliant fire-escape door. They were made for the 3rd floor of a 4 floor brownstone and measure 5’7″ x 2′ 10. Hope this is useful. Drop me a line if you’d like them.
I bought window guards from a local manufacturer on Bergen & Franklin. I don’t remember the name, but I’ll be home on Saturday and post it then. They have options of 3, 4 or 5 rungs whereas most places limit you to three. Also, I prefer to support the local guy over HD, if at all possible.
You’re asking about approved window guards for children? There are two hardware stores (Bruno’s and something else—American Houseware?) within one block of each other on Court St. near Livingston that sell NYC-qualified window guards. I’m pretty sure that Leopoldi’s on 5th Ave. between 7th & 8th Sts. in PS sells them, too. There’s a good installation diagram here: http://bit.ly/dkasMk
The annual notice to tenants is available here: http://bit.ly/aNKYLX
Complete information from NYC DOHMH about window falls prevention program can be found here: http://bit.ly/9bEFEO
We got ours (good quality 3 bar plain black) at home depot. They didn’t have stock when we first went but after a few weeks restocked. Easy to install though we didn’t use the supplied one way screws
