I recently discovered that Verizon and TWC have service equipment attached to the side of my building (above garage, so not easily visible). These lines service other buildings, but not my own. Does anyone know my grounds for either 1) requesting removal of said equipment or 2) requesting compensation/reduction in price of cable/phone services I receive? TWC sent someone out to take photos, so I know for sure they have a equipment that is servicing my neighbors. Thanks

  1. Pretty sure the telcos got the FCC to issue rules allowing them to put their equipment anywhere they like, without regard for the owner. Usually they’ll compensate the owner to avoid any hassles (like equipment getting “accidentally” damaged by owner performing routine maintenance nearby). I doubt you have the legal ability to demand its removal, but you could check with your attorney.

  2. Compensation/reduction—unlikely. Removal—possibly. Part of answer depends on whether a previous owner granted an easement. There have been other Forum threads on the subject. This one had some useful info: http://bit.ly/cyfvuu
