I am having renovated our Victorian house and some new interior doors are going in; some old ones refitted. Contractors have gotten close to end of (fixed) budget and looking to save money on doorknobs. They have a lot of integrity in how they have done the work and want to match the old ones as close as possible but have only seen then online at places like House of Antique hardware.com where they are quite pricey. Wondering if anyone could recommend a place I might find them for less. Thanks to BS posters for all the help, in advance and since this project has started.

  1. eddies place isn’t going to show up on google- he’s as reasonable as anyone could possibly be- stopped by for an outdoor door yesterday- he had one that will work with 4 panels of glass- working doorknob and lock with key- 20$ and he delivered it.

  2. There is a junk store on 9th Street, just off Smith next to the Gowanus,(Brooklyn) at the entrance to Lowes that has a lot of stuff.
If you want inexpensive new hardware, look at some of the Chinatown stores at the south end of the Bowery. I’ve seen stuff at a fraction of cost at Simons.
I might even have some old knobs, clear plastic and brass that are just collecting dust in my basement.

  3. One more silly question: I am Googling Grand and Greene and not finding it and wondering if you meant Grand and Greene in Clinton Hill (or whatever that is called now) or Manhattan…thanks again.

  4. Thanks, mopar. Are all the salvage places in Wmsburg? Only one I have ever really visited was in Manhattan where I am not going these days, at least not for a while.

    Checking ebay now….
