Does anyone know roughly the cost to re-point a 4 story brownstone? Not looking for cheapest, but a fair cost for quality work. Thanks all.

  1. The correct way to do it is to scrape off a layer of mortar to get a good base and to have sufficient room to get a good amount of new mortar (made specifically for repointing) in and then repoint.

  2. has anyone heard of amin home improvement and if so what have you heard, experienced with them. We are considering them for facade repair.

  3. We just had a bid for $12,000 to scrape off cement layer and re-point the whole rear wall from Z. Abedin. Four story building, 19′ wide. We are definitely making more calls.

This is a list I collected of references from previous Forum posts, may be helpful to you too.:

Park Slope Brownstone – VinRoy Baronette – 646-554-4513
Excellent work, good prices. He does those really intricate stoops w/ stone & masonry as well as the typical steps.

Definitely call Z.Abedin. Tell him Chris from Decatur Street referred you. Great guy, great work, great price.

I had the same problem a couple of years back and I told a friend and she recommended me to High-Tech construction. They did a really great job with an affordable price.

High-Tech took off the chipping paint from my steps and applied regular cement and topped it off with a special brownstone cement. It still looks amazing after 3 years. I was very happy with the results. You should definitely give them a call.

I recently did masonry work with Bullfrog Builders. They are general contractors with specialists in all facets of construction and access to financing as well. http://www.bullfrogny.com

Stones are Us. Carlos (718) 699-2613. He built a 15′ retaining wall for a friend of mine and did a beautiful bluestone patio for me.

If I were doing it, I would call Transcend Masonry. They advertise on this site. They didn’t do a retaining wall, but they just finished some great work for us at a reasonable price.

  4. the guy that did mine was too many years ago to even remember the cost….but since then has redone stoop, repointed fireplace on inside, poured new sidewalks, etc.
This week is supposed to build garden wall for me.

  5. I had a similar wide range of estimates. I used VinRoy who did excellent work & was reasonably priced somewhere in the middle.

  6. Hi Gwen, I’ve had estimates from 1800 to 10,000 for a two story 20 ft wide. I think we ultimately paid about 3,000. If I had to do it again I would get an estimate from Transcend because they are reasonable and I trust their workmanship. And this is not an insider plug for them, just my opninion.
