My wife and I just closed on our house in Carroll Gardens. Yesterday, we were pleasantly surprised when we removed the linoleum on the parlor floor to find what appears to be a pine subfloor in excellent condition. There are only a few planks that need replacing. Does anyone have any recommendations where we can match and buy a few planks. I don’t know what species of wood it is. I would assume that it is some type of pine.

I plan to add hardwood to the other subfloors, which are unfortunately in bad shape.
Thanks…

  1. If you are going to cover the other floors anyway, is there a chance you could salvage a few boards from here and there to patch the first floor? That’s how we did ours.

Build it Green and Olde Good things sometimes have these.

Carlisle Floors makes these. Also a bunch of places that advertise in the back of this old house and fine homebuilding. Worth picking up either publication to get those ads.

Moon River may problematic because they will sell you a lot of varied width boards, if I recall.

  2. Congratulations.

Could be white pine, common around these parts. You’ll need to order aged white pine (or whatever type of pine it is). Moon River Chattel has it for about $11 a unit (forget — yard?), but there is a minimum. I think the minimum is something like $2,000. Can’t recall. I’m sure there are other suppliers but I am not familiar with them.
