What is the best way to do this? Once upon a time someone painted the interior exposed brick wall, white. I would like to remove the paint to bring it back to its original character. Does anyone know what someone would charge to do this?

Thanks!

  1. you paint the peel away on…and yeah, it’s very thick…like the consistency of pudding….you wait for however long it says in the directions and the stuff just really detaches from the surface. You will probably have to do it twice to get off any leftover paint, but I’m not sure if you will need to repoint the brick..i DO know that brick needs to be repointed…or rather, the mortar joints weaken when paint is blasted off using high pressure water. I don’t think the peel away will affect the mortar joints, but hey, I could be wrong.

  2. if want to get an estimate – the guy I used for this job was
    Shahab at cell# 646-523-7155
I don’t remember the cost but he also repointed the whole thing too ( it was a large brick fireplace, not a wall).
Generally he is very reasonable priced, have used him for many years.

  3. How you you apply the peel away? Do you lay it on very thick and wait for it to harden and “peel it away?” I have exposed brick and the previous owner’s did a sloppy job of painting so I have caulk and paint on the brick that I’m trying to remove. The caulk is extra stubborn.

  4. I’m pretty sure you could user a product called peel away..in the paint section of Home Depot/Loew’s/hardware store….and, I’m pretty sure you can get a 5 gallon bucket of it. Also, it’s not toxic, as far as I know…

You would have to paint it on and let it sit. An old friend of mine is a union painter…and she uses that product all the time

I would think a contractor is going to charge alot….and this I know because next to car salesmen being THE biggest thieves….contractors are the second biggest thieves…..lol….plus, I work in the trades….so I know what goes on…lol
