Hi all. I was wondering if anybody had an idea how much it would cost to hire somebody to rip out the cheap sheetrock from this doorway, and fill it up with brick? There’s just too much sound leakage in it’s current state…

  1. Wouldn’t you want to fill it with some kind of actual sound barrier, rather than brick? Not concrete. Something actually made to reduce sound.

  2. If you really want to go cheap, buy the bricks and cement yourself and hire a Mexican day laborer for $100 to do the job. I’ve witnessed Mexican day laborers do excellent brick work, but you should ask in advance obviously to make sure the guy you hire is experienced. Especially since the opening isn’t structural, you’re not taking any big risks.

  3. Call a few mason/contractors/handyman type folks and get some quotes.

What’s on the other side of that “door”? Is it another apartment, a hallway, another layer of sheetrock? How many bricks deep does it need to be? 1, 2, etc? Based on the sheetrock and what’s on the other side the demo could be minor or more involved.

Those types of things can cause the cost to vary greatly.
