Old Sprinkler Main in Basement
This old Sprinkler main is starting to scare me. It was disconneted years ago, and I have a separate main for the drinking water. It’s still live…and I want it out of there. Is this a Figliolia type job? or could the city just shut it off in the street.

Thanks!
i just had a problem with the fire main (it slowly leaked water)…if the pipe slowly bursts, the city will not shut it down, they will come in (after hrs of waiting) and will give you a notice to fix it in 3 days or else you will be fined…obviously, if you have a flooding and you or the neighbors complain or call 911, the fire dept will shut it down if you have a curb valve.
on any case, i would recommend to get it turned off by a licensed plumber, if you have a curb valve, it is an easy job, if you don’t then brace for a few thousand dollar bill. the crew will dig the street and turn it off a few feet underground. then they have to patch the street.
I used balkan and they were great, talk to martin at 347 865 1279, tell him Alex from state st sent you.
