Oil Stains on Bluestone
Sometime last week somebody dripped oil on the sidewalk in front of our house; could have been sanitation or maybe somebody working on a car. It’s kind of amazing (I guess) that it hasn’t happened before (been here 25 years). Any thoughts? I got one suggestion of acetone and followed by absorbent material.

Just clean it as best as you can and let it be. It will fade over time.
similar question: I have some bluestone that has stains on it – not really oil but what looks like roofing tar on it in places. I’ve tried paint thinner and that didn’t really work very well. It’s pretty thick. Any suggestions?
Try a bit of peroxide mixed w/ the baking soda – scrub it in & let it sit for a bit. May have to repeat.
cat litter works also, then scrub per dibs
A good scrubbing with a grease cutting cleaner like Simple Green or that orange stuff should take care of it.
As witchdoctor said, though not sure it will work anymore. When stain is still fresh apply anything absorbent like baking soda, flour, sawdust, salt. After the fact, you can try applying a paste made from baking soda, scrubbing it into the stain, letting it dry in place, then washing it off. Some people have success pouring cola and/or scrubbing with dishwashing detergent. There are probably commercial cleaners available in auto supply stores.
Try baking soda or powder to absorb it.
