We have a steady amount of water pouring out from under the baseboard of one side of our basement floor. I checked the neighbor’s basement and it doesn’t appear to be coming form there. Obviously it is raining terribly but I don’t even know who to call…a plumber? It is not clear it is a pipe. There is no space in between my house and the neighbors. Any advise welcome. Also, a plumber who can come on a Saturday night…ugh. Just went to get a wet vac….
Sounds as if you need a soak-away or French drain.
modsquad: sounds strange. 20cm chimney with 10cm of railfall will produce 600ml of water. Would it be enough to create major panic?
The water is coming in about the middle of the house. A roofer I have been using, and trust, came over and felt confident? the water was coming in from crack around the air ducts on the roof. The water is now coming in in a second spot towards the back of the house. We’ve been in this house for 5.5 years and this never happened before BUT one thing which has changed recently is that our immediate neighbors built up a floor and I am not sure that the construction to help drainage is sound. The roofers will be coming back to look at it to patch holes, etc. Thanks for any and all insight! julie
Do you have an open unused chimney? Put a garbage bag on and go up on the roof.
If it’s not a broken pipe, most likely suspects are incorrectly graded cement outside or you could use a French drain. Try Irving at 718-678-4986. He correctly diagnosed and fixed all of our leaks in the basement and rear first floor by regrading the cement, plugging up holes in roof and drains with tar, redoing the hatch, etc. His prices are very reasonable, he is very fast, neat, and precise. If he needs more structural input with the diagnosis, he’ll call his brother Denis, an architect, who works with the Bushwick expediting firm Guerreros Inc. on Wyckoff Ave.
Where in relation to the rest of the house is the water coming from? Front, rear, middle…
