I’d love to be able to take advantage of reno tax credits for HD areas. Many Thanks.
Hello Susan. We need to get RFE from 75% of the people from your block. The people from Stuyvesant, Macon and Halsey have already done there homework and turned it in the LPC meeting are every 2nd Tuesday in the month at CB3 6:30 please come out.
Commodore, Contact Jackie Bolling at Community board 3. I did, and have not yet received a call back, but apparently she is the one shepherding the effort with the LPC. 718-622-6601
There is a map on Google of the proposed historic Bed-Stuy historic districts. It was posted by someone named Ashley at the NY Landmarks Conservancy (not to be confused with LPC which is Landmarks Preservation Commission). Here’s the URL: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&gl=us&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=104137522593583797349.0004761194952b7c73b25&z=14
As you’ll see, the Stuyvesant Heights Expansion would include Bainbridge Street almost over to Reid Avenue. Or perhaps you’re farther east. The district to be called Stuyvesant East includes a small section of Bainbridge, from midway between Patchen and Ralph, over to Saratoga.
The proposed district areas depicted were surveyed by LPC in 1978 but languished due to lack of community involvement. Here in Stuyvesant East, there is a lot of interest and some organization, but I’m in need of a push to find a hall WITHIN this (mostly residential) district to host one LARGE meeting to which all the local home and building owners would be invited. Any info regarding such a place would be appreciated. The invitations have been designed, mailing list downloaded, and a generous resident has offered to cover printing and postage. Somebody who knows the ins and outs of the local schools and church basement halls would be most helpful to get this effort moving. rendak@optonline.net
There was just a hearing about the expansion within the past 2 weeks. There seems to be a good amount of community support, and of course there are a few people (one that I can think of) against the idea. My hunch is that it will happen. Call the LPC because they need votes in order to move forward — they made that very clear.
Thanks, Dave.
I can see if I have the flyer at home that I got in the mailbox about the CB meeting on this. it gave contact numbers in the neighborhood. It seems to be progressing.
You could stop by and ring Mary Anne’s doorbell and ask her. She’s on Stuyvesant between macDonough and Macon in the beige painted house with the new casement windows on the east side.
I haven’t seen Montrose on today.
Update: Someone at LPC just called me to say that there has been some community push for the expansion and further as of late and that moving forward lies in the court of the community itself. They gave me contact information for Community Board 3. Still would love to hear more from you…
