Hi It would help if there was a picture. I have done a lot of restoring of both interior, and exterior masonry and plaster. And rebuilt framework. If you can post a pic I would be happy to offer a solution.
FastSteel Epoxy Putty available in HD or Lowe’s about $3.50 per tube- just mix contents together per instructions and fill in the gap- you only have about 3 minutes working time- mold the contents into the gap and smooth it out- stuff is amazing- heat contents lightly with hair dryer just before you start the job- makes it more pliable and easier to work with
