I need an electrician to take care of a couple of small things — recalibrating my overly sensitive, wired-in smoke detector (we call it our cooking detector: you can’t cook at all without setting it off)and installing a couple of dimmers. Any recommendations?

  1. Call Altin. Great electrician and reasonable prices…646-369-7594. He hooked up my HVAC electrical lines on President Street. Tell him Bill from President St sent you.

  2. Hey!…I’m a union electrician…15 years experience…..can install those dimmers…AND a hard wired smoke/carbon monoxide detecter for pretty cheap…give me a call if interested….718-757-7079

  3. Mopar: that’s what I was afraid of! I was just hoping that maybe an electrician could do something about it. Since it’s wired in, I guess my only option is to detach it (though I’d have to leave it in place, or else I’d have a hole in the ceiling), and then install a battery-operated detector in another location.

    Bessie2: thanks for the recommendation.

  4. Try Mike at 917-560-0536. He did some electrical work with our boiler and said he does alot of side jobs. He seems smart and, although our call was on an emergency basis and higher priced, he said his typical rates are competitive.

  5. As far as I know, you can’t recalibrate a smoke detector. You can only place it in a location where it’s less likely to go off when you cook.
