Staging apt - need carpets
I need to purchase a few carpets for staging our apartment for showing. Rather than buying something cheap (Ikea), I’m willing to spend a little for ones that we’ll continue to use. Something along the lines of Persian, 5′ by 8′ rugs. Any recommendations on where to look? ABC outlet? Housing Works? Thanks!

Oh yeah, forgot to say: the 2 x 3 Ikea rug was $150.
Bob Marvin beat me to it. Ikea actually has handloomed (they claim) 100 percent wool rugs from Persia. We bought a small one (2 x 3) for the hall, and are very pleased. It has some fun colors: green and turquoise, plus the usual rusty tones. You can get a really big one for less than $1,000.
I did a casual check of ABC and didn’t see anything in the 8 x 10 size for less than $3,000.
I am partial to the Madeleine Weinrib (also ABC) cotton flat weave dhurries. These run apprx $800 or so for 8 x 10.
We were also looking for something temporary (rental) that maybe we could use later. We spent $350 on an 8 x 10 rug from West Elm. It looks contemporary and is quite comfortable. I know from past experience with their rugs to be careful vacuuming, though. They tend to be loosely woven and will snag.
I have had great luck with Paul DeBeer who advertises his rugs on Craigslist. Check under UES Persian. He is a straight shooter and gets his stuff from Iran. They are good value for the money. I have purchased 3 or 4 for my traditional townhouse. I think they are the best value around. His email debeer.paul@gmail.com, Give him the sizes and he will send them pictures.
Overstock, and various online rug stores – rugsrugs.com, rugsUSA, etc. Do a Google search and click through on all the ads.
(Tip: look for images of the same rug on multiple sites to get a better sense of what the true color might be: that worked well for my living-room rug.)
Home Depot usually has some very affordable carpet remnants, if you’re willing to consider single-color rugs.
And for what it’s worth, I also have a 4 X 6′ Persian-style rug from Ikea that I’ve had for a decade now, and still get compliments on.
I’ve always like KAS carpets on Rockaway Turnpike past JFK. They have broadloom and all kinds of rugs at the best prices I’ve seen anywhere. They may have a web site. Well worth the trip.
Great stuff on rugman.com
Try looking at World Stock on Overstock.com. They have some well priced Persians and they ship quickly. Just be careful- the colors are not really true to the images.
ABC outlet, CB2, TJMaxx (Home Goods).
Housing Works rugs suck. Never saw anything worth buying there.
Ikea actually has very nice hand-made Iranian rugs at prices much lower than ABC. I’ve only bought a couple of small ones, but the last time I looked they had plenty in the size you mentioned.
