I was so excited to install washer and dryer in the basement, but plumber told us to change main water pipe first in order to hook up W/D, and these old pipes will be broken, which will cause flood to the basement that has no drains. Anyone have same experience? I need good plumber. Please give me your thoughts and rec.
Thanks

  1. Another recommendation for Stanley Lewis. They did great work, on time, worked me into their schedule and did not charge a lot. I found Hlad much more expensive.

  2. Used both John Hlad and Stanley Lewis for boiler and plumbing issues. Prefer Stanley Lewis. Hlad was more expensive and didn’t fix the problem, just referred me to someone else so I ended up paying Hlad and the referral only to have Stanley Lewis come figure it out for much less than what Hlad had me pay for. Stanley Lewis guys were nice and professional.

  3. I agree with wagongrrl….I have had the best experience with many different plumbing problems in my brownstone with John Hlad and his crew… they work with you, do a great job and are very affordable.

  4. I just had a washer & dryer installed in my little rowhouse, there had never been a hookup so I needed plumbing, gas, electric etc etc – all in the basement where I wanted it to be installed. It was quite an endeavor.
I HIGHLY recommend John Hlad Plumbing. It was not the first that I have used them, and will certainly not be the last. They are excellent in working with you and your situation, do quality work and are great people. They did all the plumbing and gas lines and then came back when the washer & Dryer arrived and electric was installed and they hooked up the lines and tested the machines and I was ready to go.

  5. Momo,

When you write “main water pipe”I’m not sure if you mean to write that the plumber told you that you’d have to replace the water main (from the street) or the water supply pipe (in the basement). The first one seems unlikely; the second is possible, if it’s in bad shape or made from a poor material, such as lead, or galvanized (and a MUCH smaller job).

I notice that you live in PLG, as do I. FWIW I’ve used Stanley Lewis plumbing for the lat few years. They’re local and IMO pretty good.

  6. I already recommended him in another post. Call Tommy (917- 907-2315), I’m forgetting the name of his company but he is licensed. He installed my water meter and has fixed some leaks for my brownstone rental property. I highly recommended him, his estimates were affordable. Tell him Allan – friend of Jennifer Flores (she recommended him to me and knows her personally – he may have forgotten me)recommended him.
