Greetings. Could anyone suggest a store or web site that might offer shelving of the kind described:

I have a VISION of a shelf, made of either sheet aluminum or coils (no continuous “bottom” to the shelf; just coils of metal) that I can place above the door in my bath for storage of towels, etc.

My VISION includes that the shelf is actually supported by diagonal arms at each end of the shelf (both functional for storage, and would avoid big “L” type brackets above or below the shelf).

Thanks!

  1. Thank you, all , especially for the vocabulary, viz., “train rack” (tangent: the restaurant Belleville actually has old European train racks on it’s walls, which is very cool).

  2. Go for stainless steel. I am not sure what you mean by coils, but if you want a plain stainless shelf, something that looks like it belongs in a commercial kitchen (hey, that kind of thing is in, right?) go to McMaster-Carr Sales. I think it may be mcmastercarr.com. Enter Stainless shelving in the search bar on their site.

  3. What dbs says. I don’t think you’ll find aluminum however, not strong enough. More likely stainless steel. The ones I’ve mounted have a “T” like bracket. screws above and below the shelf. You might want to wonder through the restaurant supply places on the Bowery. I had a sink made to a sketch I made on the spot at the place on the NE corner of The Bowery (183?) and Delancey, their factory is actually in Dumbo.

  4. Restoration Hardware, Pottery barn and many others have things like these…typically referred to as towel “Train Racks.” Do a google search for others.

If space above the door is an isssue especially with the arms, install it upside-down.
