Looking for professional advice on installing a ductless/mini-split AC system. Anyone have recommendations for HVAC specialists in this? Anyone you’ve used? Anyone have recommendations for specific systems, and what we should be looking for (ie, what kind of SEER is realistic?)

Thanks!

  1. bkrules, did you ever get this work done? I’m in the market for an installation myself and hoping to get it done with my coop board’s approval. I would be interested to hear how your experience went and who did you use?

  2. We had a two floor system installed by Phils Air Conditiong and heating of Staten Island last year. They did a great job and came back afterwards to work around a number of issues we had due to other construction. The performance of the units was amazing (in both cost and cooling capacity) versus prior experience with window units.

  3. Most name brand units these days are good. Each particular installer has individual preferences. I recommend either Fujitsu Halcyon or LG.

Get as high a SEER rating as you can. Fujitsu now has single 12K BTU systems that are 25+ SEER.

Just make sure you have the system sized and installed properly. Like everything else these days, way too many hacks installing these things. Be aware if you buy from an unauthorized dealer of a particular brand you will not be able to get any parts replaced under warranty if the need should arise.

  4. Are you using it for heating and cooling?Or for cooling only. The seer rating differs depending on the heating/cooling cycle. How many units are you using?
