Divided Light Windows
We are going to replace the windows on our greenpoint row house (the existing windows are mostly beyond repair). We would like to have true divided light, wooden windows. Any recommendations?

Both Durathem and Dynamic both make terrific products, but they seem a little overkill if you ask me. It’s a bit like buying a Ferrari when you would be fine with a Ford. Marvin’s windows are pre-approved landmarks windows. On the double hungs Marvin does have a plastic beige or white strips that are visible from the exterior, but the cost vs performance of Marvin are great. Marvin costs an average of 2000-2500 per window with installation. Duratherm will be about double that.
Just make sure you use a good installer. Installation is 50% of the job and a terrible installer can make great windows exactly that, terrible.
Marvin also has several grades of their all wood windows, the cheaper grade has a flimsy piece on the interior sill that can break – so I don’t recommend those. I know that if the job is large enough Marvin will make split species – where you can choose a durable exterior wood like Ipe or Mohogany and use a nice paintable wood like Douglas Fur.
Good Luck,

Duratherm – http://www.durathermwindow.com/ – and Dynamic – http://www.dynamicwindows.com/ – both have a beautiful product line. Top notch windows.
