Costs to Upgrade Electrical
I have submitted an offer on a 1,200 sf, 2br/2ba co-op apartment that has been accepted. I had an inspection completed that identified a number of deficiencies including a need to upgrade the electrical distribution for the apartment. Are there any good rules of thumb for estimating the cost to upgrade?

How do you install central air in an apartment? Doesn’t it have to be installed throughout the whole building?
FWIW, you can completely rewire a whole 20 x 45 house with three floors and a basement for $15,000.
Not sure if sterling is thinking along the same lines as us, but we were told that to have central air installed in our apartment we would need to upgrade the electrics. The inspector told us this after looking at the box in the basement. Any idea how much that would cost?
Hmmmmm…..I’m not sure what you’re asking. You need to run a few new lines to the existing box? Or you need to rewire the whole thing and put in a new box?
I think I can accurately say it will be less than $3,000. It might be just $800 or $1200. Figure approximately $200 per point — and then throw in some extra.
You will also need to plaster to cover up the holes. That gets rather pricey quickly.
