We’re considering building 2 fireplaces in a 2-family house where there are none. So basically they need to be built from scratch.

1) I suspect a DOB approval would be necessary. Is this easy to obtain?

2) What kind of expense can we expect?

Thanks for sharing your experience/thoughts.

  1. I own Innovative Chimney corp. I specialize in building fireplaces and restoring old mantles and chimneys. Stainless steel liners are a great product designed to prevent condensation from damaging chimneys. They have also proven to be effective in preventing flues which have already softened from collapsing and becoming blocked which causes carbon monoxide to spill into the home. 2. Call Andre at A & A Chimneys, (718) 953-2836. He’s experienced and an honest guy. Relined two chimneys and converted formerly gas burning fireplaces into wood for us. It’s not cheap.

  3. Yes, you will need a permit from dob. Are you looking for gas fired or wood burning? Pricing depends upon what you want to install. If you need an architect we can take care of it for you.
